Intro screens for Flow app

It's challenging to gain the momentum needed to make dreams a reality.

COVID-19 was a period of distress and anxiety for the world, and even more so for emerging adults who are expected to be grounded in a fast-paced yet challenging time. As a passion project during the pandemic, I designed a mobile app experience to help young adults be more mindful and organized in the actions they need to take to build sustainable habits and accomplish their life goals.

After initial research, it became clear to me that a lack of consistency and organization in their progress prevented many individuals from achieving their goals. With the concept of my app 'Flow', users create daily tasks that are marked for completion for a specific day of the week and track their progress towards their goals with a linear milestone visualization for heightened focus.

To appeal to the younger audiences and make each graphic unique, I selected a wide variety of flat colors. I was keen on having more blue-tones to emphasize the Mini-Circuits’ blue that current customers already love.

The final designs represent nine different parts that came out in Summer 2019. My hope was for anyone riding in the subway to become immediately invested with the graphics from each of the circuit’s colors.

I created an affinity map to discover patterns inhibiting goal achieving.

I conducted six semi-structured interviews and curated a survey that generated twenty-one responses. I created an affinity diagram with my notes to have a bigger picture of how people were working towards their goals, and whether my observations could still stand true.

Personas helped encapsulate my audience.

From my user interviews, I realized that young adults who found challenges in accomplishing their goals fell into one of these these three archetypes: exhausted fickler, anxious doubter, and spontaenous visionary.

Exhausted Fickler
Consistency is key to making a change. Young adults are more conscious of their goal when they are consistent with their behaviors.

Anxious Doubter
Seeing and feeling results are important. Young adults stay motivated when they feel like they are improving from the work they put into their goals.

Spontaneous Visionary
Reflection and feedback is essential to growth, and overall, being a stronger goal-achiever.

Initial Sketches

I looked at the trending applications that young adults used most often and that were brought up. Asana or Notion templates served as a project management tool, a notes app like MinimaList helps users stay organized and focused towards what is most important to them during the day.

I experimented with different user flows to help young adults define an actionable plan to achieve their goal. From my user flows, I started to imagine what the screens might look like for the user.

Initial Prototype

I quickly drafted a After feedback from my initial sketches, I decided to focus the scope of the project to two main user flows of the application: Daily Tasks & Milestones.

Complete routine tasks that help you achieve your goal in the 'Daily Tasks' view. Track progress with defined metrics and deadlines in the 'Milestones' view.
